Veggie Trumps is an educational game where fruits and vegetables battle to be cream of the crop.
Designed for children and adults alike, there are hours of fun to be had. You might just learn something too!
The aim of Veggie Trumps is to raise children’s awareness and familiarity of fruits and vegetables by learning about their nutritional values through a fun to play game.
The game is based on the concept of Top Trumps which many children will already be familiar with, but instead of battling warships or tanks it is fruits and veg that take centre stage. The game has been shown to help with group play, reading and maths as well as helping to teach about the fruits and veg themselves.
All of the nutritional information for each fruit and vegetable in the game is taken from McCance and Widdowson’s The Composition of Foods. This is considered to be the authoritative and most comprehensive text covering nutritional data in the UK. The numbers show on each card are per 100g of raw fruit, which helps to give the fairest comparison.
Each pack consists of 30 fruit and vegetable cards and 2 cards of rules and information including:

Great fun to play even as an adult! Sure kids will love this and learn as they play, I learnt how useless cucumbers are in every respect!
Really good idea and extremely well executed. The cards are very high quality and an ingenious use of a traffic light system means even very young children can play. We got our cards yesterday and already myself and my children have played a number of games and had great fun playing!

My partner is vegetable growing and eating mad so this was a fun after dinner game at Christmas time.
I bought these to use in my food lessons in September. They arrived in a nice box and came with instructions/suggestions of how to use them. I can see them as being a great learning tool for students (and my own kids) to understand the nutritional value of a range of fruit and veg and assist students in selecting and developing suitable recipes for their briefs.
This works really well. We’ve played in in the car on long journeys mostly, and it actually makes my younger son want to eat the most ‘powerful’ vegetables!
